Ex-solon loses gun, cash in QC burglary

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – A former congressman from the Visayas lost his gun, cash and jewelry to thieves who had broken into his residence inside a Quezon City subdivision while the caretaker was away.

The burglary was discovered Friday night when a security guard on patrol noticed that the front door had been left ajar at the house of former Bohol Representative Roberto Cajes in New Intramuros Village, Barangay Old Balara.

Reported stolen were a .45-caliber pistol and a still undetermined amount of cash and pieces of jewelry, said Police Officer 3 Alvin Quisumbing of the Quezon City Police District.

Cajes, 63, served as representative of Bohol’s second district for three terms, from 2001 to 2010,  and was later elected mayor of Trinidad town.

Quisumbing said Cajes was away while his caretaker also went home to Bohol province on Tuesday.

Barangay and subdivision officers found the household ransacked. The caretaker later returned and, in a statement to the police, reported the items that had gone missing.

Quisumbing noted that the door leading to the terrace had been forced open. Julie M. Aurelio
