MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Friday vowed to pursue the cases against property developer Delfin Lee despite insinuations that he contributed to President Benigno Aquino III’s campaign in 2010.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said he had no information on whether or not Lee was one of Mr. Aquino’s campaign contributors, and referred reporters to a list released by the elections body.

Checked by the Inquirer, President Aquino’s statement of election contributions and expenditures (Soce) did not include the name of Delfin Lee in the list of 96 donors of his 2010 election campaign. (The President’s Soce showed that wealthy relatives and businessmen including Antonio “Tonyboy” Cojuangco donated a total of P440 million for Mr. Aquino’s presidential run.)

Even if the claims about Lee were true, Lacierda said the government was focused on pursuing the cases against the real estate magnate.

“There is a pending case against him. We have never shied away from prosecuting anyone that has been charged. So, the DOJ (Department of Justice), insofar as the government is concerned, will prosecute its case against Delfin Lee,” he said.
