LAGUNA, Philippines—Nine people were arrested Wednesday in an anti-drug police operation in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
The Cavite police director, Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, said the police, armed with warrants, searched four neighboring homes in Barangay Datu Esmael at around 4 a.m. and recovered a sub-machine gun, a hand grenade, as well as “blocks of marijuana” leaves and a still undetermined amount of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride).
“The community was like a drug flea market. This is where the drugs being traded in Cavite are mostly coming from,” Esquivel said in a phone interview.
The police have not yet released the names of the arrested suspects but Esquivel said they would be charged for violating laws on illegal drugs and illegal firearms.
