After hearing about reports of young men killing their parents, a couple asked the Cebu City police yesterday to detain their 16-year-old son who allegedly threatened to kill them last Sunday morning.
Charges of illegal possession of deadly weapon were filed by the city police against the teenage suspect last Tuesday at the Mandaue City Prosecutors’ Office.
He was transferred to the Operation Second Chance Center, the second time he was detained there.
Chief Insp. Elmer Fernandez said PO2 Renato Berdon stood as the complainant.
“The parents were afraid of their son whom they described as ill-tempered,” he said.
Fernandez said the neighbors told them that the suspect is a drug user while the family said the boy used solvent.
Last Sunday morning Fernandez said the teenager had a heated argument with a 12-year-old sister and mauled her. When his mother scolded him, the youth reportedly got angry and pointed a knife at her.
Fernandez said the teenager threatened to kill his mother and his three siblings. His eldest sister immediately reported the incident to the Centro police precinct.
The youth tried to flee but was later caught by the police.
Fernandez said the teenager earlier stabbed a relative on the head during an argument, resulting in his detention at the Operation Second Chance Center.
He said the parents were convinced to file charges against their son after hearing about the murder of a pregnant mother and her daughter that was allegedly committed by her son in barangay Naalad, Naga City, last week.
Fernandez said the parents also cited the murder of a mother by her 25-year-old son at her home in barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, last Aug. 25.
“The parents only wanted to have their son jailed but they were too afraid of their son and asked the police to file charges on their behalf,” he said.
