DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Electricity has been restored to 25 villages in three Davao Oriental municipalities, more than a year after Typhoon “Pablo” devastated the region and about a month since President Aquino told officials to quit if they could not restore power quickly.
Power was restored in the two dozen villages after the ceremonial power “switch on” in Cateel town on Monday.
Edith Bueno, chief of the National Electrification Administration, noted in a press statement that the power restoration came a month after President Aquino visited Cateel last February 24.
The President got annoyed when told that 25 villages were still without electricity and he directed Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla to restore power in the villages in a month’s time.
Bueno said the groundwork of the restoration process started on March 3 and the work was completed on March 29.
The restoration project involved 126 workers from 11 different electric cooperatives in Mindanao.
