MANILA, Philippines—A 24-year-old man was killed while another was wounded on Sunday afternoon when they were ambushed by eight men in Quezon City.
Adrian Delima, a resident of Sto. Niño Street in Barangay (village) Holy Spirit, died on the spot while his 43-year-old housemate Manhil Adona survived.
Adona, however, remains confined in a hospital for the treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.
PO2 Julius Ceasar Balbuena of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the shooting started at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday on Sta. Maria Street in Barangay Holy Spirit.
He added that Delima and Adona were traveling on a motorcycle when eight tandem-riding men who were also on motorcycles blocked their path and started shooting at them.
Delima died on the spot while Adona, though badly wounded, managed to run away, the police investigator said.
He added that the armed men then chased Adona who fled toward Maligaya Compound in Barangay Commonwealth.
Unknown to him, two policemen who lived in the compound heard the gunshots and went out of their houses to investigate. PO3 Marlon Coleta, assigned at the Batasan Hills police station, and PO2 Virgilio Vargas of the Camp Crame-based Police Security and Protection Group introduced themselves as lawmen but they were also shot at by the gunmen, leading to a fire fight which ended when the suspects sped away on their motorcycles.
The police investigator said the apparent target of the attack was Adona who told his friend earlier that he had been getting death threats although the motive for his killing has yet to be determined.
