MANILA, Philippines—A jeepney barker died after he was stabbed repeatedly by two bonnet-wearing men in Tondo, Manila, on Sunday evening.
The victim, identified only as a certain “Iking,” suffered multiple stab wounds, according to PO2 Michael Maraggun of the Manila Police District homicide division.
The policeman said the victim, who was estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old, was calling for passengers on A. Rivera Street corner Recto Avenue around 6:30 p.m. when two men armed with knives tried to stab him.
Iking managed to run away but he tripped on the road, allowing the men to catch him and stab him repeatedly. Both men then escaped.
Jeepney driver Mervin Salazar rushed the victim to a hospital but the attending doctor, Dr. Leonny Tantri, said his wounds were too grave and he passed away after three hours.—Maricar B. Brizuela
