Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has approved an ordinance that will provide underprivileged daycare, elementary and high school students with free uniforms, shoes, bags and other school supplies.
According to the city government’s website, there are over 400,000 students enrolled in the city’s 99 public elementary schools and 48 public high schools. On the other hand, there are 272 city-operated daycare centers.
Under the ordinance, underprivileged public school students whose parents or guardians earn a total monthly income of not more than P10,000 may avail of the Basic Education Enhancement Program. No minimum grade requirement has been set for beneficiaries who will continue to be eligible unless proven otherwise.
Qualified daycare pupils will be provided free school and physical education uniforms, a pair of black shoes and rubber shoes; socks; prescribed workbooks; school bags; basic school supplies; rain gear, including rain coats and boots as well as towels; and nutritional meals.
Elementary and high school students, on the other hand, will be entitled to two school uniforms as well as a physical education uniform; socks; school shoes and rubber shoes; prescribed workbooks for Mathematics, Science, Filipino and English; school bags; basic school supplies; laboratory gowns; and rain gear, including rain coats, boots and towels.
