Abu Sayyaf men abduct school principal in Basilan

MANILA, Philippines–Alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf Group have abducted a school principal in Basilan, the military said Monday.

According to Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala, the bandits seized Benitta Enriquez, 60-years-old, in Sitio (sub-village) Mompol, Barangay (village) Libug, Sumisip, Basilan at 6:20 a.m. Monday.

Zagala added that five members of the ASG under Juhabeil Alamsirul abducted Enriquez, who is the principal of Manggal Elementary School.

According to the report, the victim was on-board a yellow Tamaraw jeep with plate number JVK-359 travelling from Barangay Manggal, Sumisip to Isabela City and was abducted on the latter destination.

AFP troops supporting the Philippine National Police in the area immediately conducted pursuit operations and blocked all possible exits.
