4 police sons top PNPA ‘Mandilaab’ Class of 2014

SILANG, Philippines–‎This year, four top graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) will follow the footsteps of their fathers.

Among the top 10 police cadets of the 202-strong “Mandilaab” Class of 2014, four, including the topnotcher, are sons of policemen.

The class of Mandilaab, which stands for Mandirigmang may Dangal at Isipan Laan para sa Bayan‎, will graduate on Monday at Camp Mariano Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.

Topnotcher and former seminarian Police Cadet Glenn Tabo Santelices, 25, is the son of PO3 Heide Santelices, natives of San Andres town in Catanduanes.

Before deciding to join the PNPA, Santelices graduated cum laude with a degree in Philosphy from the Claret seminary in Quezon City.

Santelices will receive the Presidential and Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP)‎ Kampilan award from President Benigno Aquino III and Director General Alan Purisima, respectively.

‎At second place is 21-year-old Police Cadet Bryan John Dayag Baccay from Caggay town in Tuguegarao City.

Baccay is an offspring of a retired policeman, Nelson Baccay.  ‎He will be given the Vice President ‎Kampilan Award conferred by Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Placing third ‎is Police Cadet Allan Benedict Ramos Rosete, 22, son of policeman Benny Rosete.

Rosete, of Peñablanca town, Cagayan province, ‎will personally receive the Secretary of Interior and Local Government Award from Interior secretary Manuel Roxas II.

Incidentally, sixth-place‎r Police Cadet Andy Ray Asturias Geronilla’s father is also a retired policeman, Edilberto Geronilla.

Geronilla, a native of Panacan town, Davao City, will receive the Plaque of Merit as the sixth place.

Of the 202 soon to be police inspectors, 10 are female graduates.

More than half of the class will be admitted to the PNP, 10 to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), while‎ five inspectors will be assigned to the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP).
