MANILA, Philippines—The Manila Police District (MPD) has deployed additional policemen in university belt and business districts of Manila in preparation for the crush of consumers and students before the opening of the school year, Radyo Inquirer reported Friday.
Quoting MPD Police Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo, the report said that as part of MPD’s “Oplan Balik-Eskwela” [Back to school] program,
additional police forces from stations 2 and 11 will be stationed along the so-called university belt of Manila, and in the business districts of Divisoria and Binondo to ensure the security of shoppers who will descend on the area looking for bargains on school supplies.
The MPD reminded students to be careful, and for parents not to bring their children when shopping in these areas.
