2 rebels surrender in Capiz on eve of NPA’s 45th anniversary

MANILA, Philippines—Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have turned themselves in to the military in Tapaz town, Capiz Province, a radio report said.

A certain “Boy” and “Nonoy,” of the the NPA Central Front Committee, returned to the folds of the law on Friday night to the Philippine Army.

The two surrendered on the eve of the 45th founding anniversary of the NPA, armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), on March 29, Saturday.

The report said “Boy,” the finance and logistics officer of the communist group’s central committee, decided to surrender “for his wife and children.”

It added that the NPA members urged their fellow rebels to turn themselves in to the government.

“Boy” and “Nonoy” are currently under the custody of the military as part of the government’s Gun for Peace and social integration programs.

On March 22, top leaders of the CPP-NPA Benito and Wilma Tiamzon were arrested in Cebu Province. The Tiamzon couple are detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center.
