4 disabled persons receive wheelchairs from Navforcen

FOUR disabled persons were blessed with free wheelchairs from the Naval Forces Central headed by Commodore Zyril Carlos Saturday morning at the Navforcen headquarters in barangay Looc, Lapu-Lapu City.

The beneficiaries were Nera-Rosita Patalinghug, a polio victim from barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City; Jose Delfin, a diabetic from San Nicolas, Cebu City; Estelita Retiza, a leg amputee from Pasil, Cebu City; and PO1 Jose Baura (retired Philippine Navy), who suffered a stroke due to hypertension of barangay Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City.

“This is part of our social responsibility. That is why we came up with this project to help the disabled persons. We partnered with the Department of Health (DOH) in identifying the beneficiaries of the program,” said Carlos in an interview with Cebu Daily News.

Each wheelchair costs around P20,000 to P25,000.  Carlos said more walkers are coming and still DOH will select the beneficiaries. /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
