Manila, Philippines—The final schedule for the filing of certificate of candidacy for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections has been set on May 19 to May 23, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr., said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer Friday.
The final schedule for the ARMM polls was reset twice in the past, from May 9 to 13 and to May 14 to 18. Brilliantes said that they had to reset the filing date anew because the bill for holding the election was still pending in the Philippine Senate.
The election of the next set of officials for the ARMM is currently set for the first Monday of August 2011. But there is a pending bill in the Senate which seeks to synchronize the ARMM election with the national polls. If passed, the ARMM elections will not be held in August, but on May 2013, instead.
