Part of Commonwealth Avenue to be closed on Friday

Anticipating a large number of participants in the Iglesia ni Cristo’s evangelical mission on Friday (March 28), Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has ordered a portion of Commonwealth Avenue closed to vehicular traffic. Bautista said that starting at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, motorists will have to avoid the eastbound or Fairview-bound lane of Commonwealth Avenue, particularly from the Sandiganbayan to Litex Road, which will be closed for the duration of the Lingap-Pamamahayag (Aid to Humanity-Evangelical Mission) activity. He said that by 6 a.m., a counter-flow scheme on Commonwealth Avenue, particularly on the Elliptical Road-bound side, will be put in effect. Department of Public Order and Safety chief Elmo San Diego said that apart from the counter-flow measure, Fairview-bound vehicles would be rerouted to Batasan Road to ease vehicular traffic. On Friday, the INC will hold its evangelical mission in front of the new house of worship, still under construction, on Commonwealth Avenue. Jeannette I. Andrade

QC to install welcome arches

ARCHES bearing the message “Welcome to Quezon City, the City of Stars” will soon rise in 10 of the city’s major entry points.  On Monday, the city council approved on third and final reading a resolution on the installation of the arches “to instill pride in residents.” According to the resolution, “the recognition of being the city of stars likewise manifests that Quezon City is rich in culture and a potential hub for business investment and tourism development.” The areas where the arches will be set up are Batasan-San Mateo Road; Quirino Highway; General Luis Street which is the boundary of Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon and Caloocan City north; Edsa, particularly at the boundaries of Unang Sigaw-Balingasa and Caloocan City south, Quezon City, Mandaluyong and Pasig; North Diversion Road; Mindanao Avenue; Quezon Avenue; and Aurora Boulevard, particularly at the boundaries of Doña Imelda and San Juan City; Loyola Heights and Marikina City. The city council said Quezon City was officially recognized as the “City of Stars” in an October 1998 council resolution. Jeannette I. Andrade
