HAGONOY, Philippines—A former beauty titlist, who is now a councilor in this town, was shot and wounded by a lone gunman, while she and a companion were on their way to Paombong town on Tuesday night, police said.
Councilor Francis Dianne Cervantes, 32, who was crowned Miss Earth Philippines-Fire in 2006, suffered bullet wounds in the face and was taken to the Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos City. She was later transferred to a hospital in Metro Manila.
Cervantes, a resident of Barangay (village) Mercado here, is serving her third term as councilor of Hagonoy.
Senior Supt. Joel Orduna, Bulacan police director, said Cervantes was on board a motorcycle driven by her friend, Romelita Raymundo, when the gunman attacked them in Barangay San Isidro II in Paombong at 7 p.m.
Orduna said the gunman, armed with a .45 cal. pistol and who was wearing a motorcycle helmet, approached Cervantes and Raymundo, who both fell from their motorcycle, and again shot the councilor.
Orduna said investigators have yet to identify the gunman and establish the motive for the attack.
