MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine government on Tuesday expressed sympathy to the families of the passengers of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, following Malaysia’s announcement that the missing plane had indeed crashed in the Indian Ocean.

“Our thoughts are with the families of all those aboard MH370 as they continue to hope for closure on this tragedy,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said in a text message to media.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced on Monday that unprecedented analysis of satellite data confirmed that the MH370 “ended in the southern Indian Ocean,” which is “a remote location, far from possible landing sites.”

It is still a mystery why and how the Boeing 777 shifted course from its intended destination in Beijing, China.

Flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 8 with 239 passengers and flight crew. It was supposed to reach Beijing hours later but lost contact as it entered Vietnam’s airspace.
