‘Caloy’ puts 12 Mindanao areas under Signal No. 1

MANILA, Philippines—More areas in Mindanao were placed under Signal No. 1 as tropical depression “Caloy” accelerated midday Friday.

Caloy, which was last located 330 kilometers east northeast of Davao City, was moving closer to Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The tropical depression packed maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and moved westward at 11 kph.

Areas under Signal No. 1;

These areas were warned of possible flashfloods and landslides. Moderate to heavy rains were forecast within Caloy’s 300 kilometer diameter.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft were advised not to venture out into the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon due to the northeast monsoon.
