MANILA, Philippiines—President Benigno Aquino III has appointed former Muntinlupa Representative Ruffino Rozzano Biazon as his next commissioner of the Bureau of Customs and former Scout Rangers commander Danilo Lim as the deputy commissioner for intelligence.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte made the announcement in a late afternoon news briefing in Malacanang on Wednesday.
Both Biazon and Lim were losing candidates on President Aquino’s Liberal Party senatorial slate in 2010.
Biazon replaces outgoing Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez.
President Aquino decided to replace Alvarez after Bureau of Customs failed to meet its collection targets. Alvarez claimed forces threatened by his anti-smuggling campaign maneuvered to have him replaced.
