The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is eager to start repairing the 39-year-old Magallanes Interchange in Makati City as it warned that the cracks it found expose motorists to “extreme danger.”
“We have to do something soon because the structure is no longer reliable. We have been noticing concrete disintegration,” Reynaldo Tagudando, director of the DPWH-National Capital Region office, told reporters yesterday.
“We appealed to MMDA Chair Francis [Tolentino] not to delay the repair since there won’t be total closure and we plan to do it between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. when there are fewer vehicles,” he said.
The repair and rehabilitation of the Magallanes Interchange is set to be completed within eight months. Tolentino, however, said it should start after Holy Week to prevent heavy traffic in the area.
