Guard kills teenager
A case of homicide was filed against a 52-year-old security guard accused of killing a teenager whom he caught stealing a sackful of electrical wires from a school on Tuesday morning. Rodrigo Vinson Jr., an employee of Air Force One security agency who was assigned at the Flos Carmeli Institution of Quezon City on Carmel Street in Barangay Greater Fairview, was charged in the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office with homicide in relation to the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. PO3 Hermogenes Capili of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that although Vinson had claimed self-defense in the shooting of 16-year-old Melvin Dulo, he must still face charges in court. Capili said the shooting happened around 7 a.m. on Tuesday in the school’s dumping area. Vinson said that after he caught Dulo stealing electrical wires, he was forced to shoot the victim after the teenager stabbed him in the arm with a bread knife. According to the police, the victim suffered a gunshot wound in the temple while the security guard voluntarily submitted himself for further investigation and surrendered his service firearm, a .38-cal. pistol, for tests.
