Senior Superintendent Joselito Esquivel, Cavite police director, said the body was identified as that of Roniel Ochena. A fisherman found the body on the seaside in the village of Mongha around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
The authorities called off the search for four fishermen still missing last Sunday after a crew refloated the fishing boat Dan Israel L, which sank on March 12 after it was rammed by a still unidentified cargo ship in Manila Bay. The fishing boat had 23 people aboard when the accident occurred near Caballo Island, some 10 kilometers from Ternate, Cavite.
Three other crew members of the boat remain missing—Orley Ando, Mark Tiangco and a man identified only as Nilson.
Police asked locals to keep an eye of the shorelines of Bataan, Batangas and Mindoro provinces and report if any more bodies are found.
