Former basketball player nabbed for drug possession

MANILA, Philippines—A former basketball player was arrested early Wednesday by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for allegedly carrying 30 capsules of “fly high” ecstasy and one liquid ecstasy in Taguig City.

Derrick Carreon, PDEA spokesperson, told INQUIRER.net that a certain “Rey” was arrested around 2 a.m. Wednesday at the parking grounds of upscale Bonifacio Global City. Carreon said the anti-narcotic agents also seized an energy drink mixed with suspected liquid ecstasy and a red Ford Mustang.

A variant of ecstasy, “fly high” is a mix of shabu or methamphetamine, ecstasy, and Chinese Viagra.

PDEA said “fly high” consumers usually belong to the high society, celebrities, youth, and those who are in night clubs.

PDEA, however, withheld the identity of the suspect so as not to obstruct their follow-up operations. Another radio report said that “Rey” was a former collegiate player who tried his luck in professional basketball but did not make it.
