MANILA, Philippines–After the Holy Week this year, the government said no more weekend road repairs and re-blocking projects on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila would be undertaken.

This was the agreed timetable of repairs along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue between the Metro Manila Development Authority and the Department of Public Works and Highways on Tuesday.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said the weekend re-blocking, which causes heavy traffic in its target areas, would only last until Holy Week, which starts from April 17 to April 20.

The so-called “Mega Road Repairs” on Edsa targets at least 30,000 square meter portion of the highway from Roxas Boulevard in Manila to the Bonifacio Monument in Caloocan City.

The entire stretch of Edsa is approximately 80,775 square meters.

Starting Holy Thursday until Good Friday, the DPWH will accomplish repairs on the northbound lane of Edsa.

From Holy Friday until Easter Sunday, road works along the southbound lane of Edsa will be finished.

Rey Tagodando, DPWH NCR director, said they would take advantage of the Holy Week break to complete the scheduled road repairs as early as April.

As of March 3, Tagodando said  50,000.006 square meters or a total of 23.8 kilometers have been repaired in the stretch of Roxas Boulevard up to Monumento.
