Man arrested for murder of mom in Davao del Sur
DAVAO DEL SUR, Philippines —A 24-year-old man was arrested and has been charged with parricide for allegedly bludgeoning his mother to death during a heated altercation in Barangay (village) Aplaya here on Sunday, the police reported Monday.
Senior Inspector Marvin Hugos, town police chief, said 44-year-old Marilyn Borja, a resident of Sitio Camukaan died from multiple injuries when her son, Francis Tomas Jr. struck her repeatedly with a bamboo pole.
She was rushed to the Davao del Sur provincial hospital but did not survive her injuries, Hugos said.
“We arrested the suspect during a manhunt operation,” he said.
Senior Superintendent Michael John Dubria, provincial police chief, said the suspect would be subjected to tests for possible drug use, saying the gory killing could only have been done by a person with a disturbed mind.
“We could not understand why the son would kill his mother in a spat, no matter how serious it was. He must have been in an unstable mental condition,” Dubria said.
