MANILA, Philippines – Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara expressed “concern” over reports linking his father, former Senator Edgardo Angara, into the “pork barrel” scam but said he was confident his father could answer all the allegations being hurled at him.
“I’m concerned but I’m pretty confident that he can answer them, these charges against him,” the younger Angara said in a television interview on Tuesday, a transcript of which was later released to the media.
“His name came out in the full report. The COA (Commission on Audit) commissioner said just appearing in the COA report is not evidence of criminal involvement,” he said.
Media reports said the former senator was among the legislators who had allegedly funnelled their “pork barrel” funds to questionable organizations.
The younger Angara said his father was just out of the country, but assured that he was not “hiding” and that he would answer all the issues raised against him.
“…He was one of the first to have a school-feeding program so he got very respectable people. He was able to raise funds for the program. I’m confident he can answer them, these issues,” the incumbent senator said.
