Young writers summer program

Calling all Filipino high school students. Join the INQUIRER in Education YoungWriters Summer Program for the chance to be published in this section.

The deadline is May 16 for this creative writing challenge to Filipino secondary school students who may submit poetry and/or prose (essay or story) on any topic of their choice.

The best three poems, essays and stories will be published in a special YoungWriters issue of the Learning section on June 3.

Every entry must be accompanied by an entry form, which may be downloaded from INQUIRER.net. The entry form must be completely filled in and signed by the student and a parent or guardian.

FEATURED STORIES

A student may submit one poem with a maximum of 500 words and/or prose (essay or story) with a maximum of 1,500 words on any topic of their choice. Longer entries will be disqualified.

Entries may be submitted by e-mail to [email protected]. Indicate “Learning” on the subject line. Your e-mail should have these attachments: your creative writing(s) and your completed entry form.

Entries may also be submitted on a CD via slowmail or hand delivery with an accompanying printed entry form to Philippine Daily Inquirer, 1098 Chino Roces Avenue 1204, Makati City.

Printed or faxed entries with no soft copy will be disqualified. Entries must be the student’s original writing. If a parent or a teacher has made edits or changes to the student’s work(s), these should be minimal and the first version written by the student should also be submitted. Entries must reach the INQUIRER office by 5 p.m., Friday, May 16. Late entries will not be judged.

A panel made up of teachers, authors and editors will select the best entries.

Needless to say, creative writing will affect every reader differently. But a work may be deemed outstanding because it is original, engaging, simple but powerful, and has no mistakes in spelling and grammar; the language is descriptive, the sentences are well-crafted and the flow is smooth.

Elementary students may submit their entries to Junior INQUIRER, our Sunday pullout section for young readers.
