SUV in Binay convoy falls into ravine in Ifugao; 3 hurt

MANILA, Philippines – At least three people were injured after the convoy of Vice President Jejomar Binay plunged into a ravine while traversing a road in Banaue, Ifugao province before noon Friday.

Reports from the Philippine National Police said one of the security marshal vehicles of Binay, a Toyota Fortuner, fell into a 15-meter deep ravine, which can be compared to a five-storey building.

The Office of the Vice President said around 11:15 a.m., the back-up vehicle of Binay fell near the Banaue town proper.

Binay was not hurt, police said.

Among the injured were Sergeant Danilo Tamo, the driver of the vehicle, Corporal Alexander Solis, and photographer Roman Campita. One of the passengers, Sergeant Alexander Sicat, was unhurt.

‎The casualties were brought to Good News Clinic and Hospital in Banaue town.

‎As of posting time, police said Campita would be airlifted to Man‎ila for treatment.

‎The OVP said Binay was on his way to Banaue to turn over medical equipment and inaugurate a senior citizens’ building.
