MANILA, Philippines—It looks like shame won’t fool anyone.
After the Bureau of Internal Revenue sparked a social media firestorm with an advertisement that featured a doctor sitting atop a struggling teacher, netizens are still doubtful whether their shame campaign could urge tax offenders from paying their taxes.
In an unofficial poll by INQUIRER.net, 58.55 percent of the netizens, or 1,397 of the total 2,386 votes, believe that no amount of shame would change a tax offender’s spots.
Less than half of the number of the pessimists supports the shame campaign with 27.75 percent, or 662, of them looking on the brighter side of the tax spectrum.
Lastly, 13.7 percent or 327 votes have no stand whatsoever on the issue.
