A barangay councilor is one of 52 persons arrested by police in a series of saturation drives in Cebu City.
Benvienedo Paslon, 47, a councilor in barangay Sacsan, Pinamunghan town, southwest Cebu, was arrested when 12 packs of suspected drugs were recovered from his house in barangay Tejero, Cebu City.
Police said Paslon was caught by agents of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch repacking suspected drugs in his home past 9 p.m. last Sunday.
Paslon denied owning the shabu. He said he was sleeping in his room when he heard a noise and went out to check only to be arrested by police.
Several other persons were also arrested for using illegal drugs and illegal gambling activities.
Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said the saturation drives that started last Sept. 7 should send a strong message that police will not stop running after suspected criminals./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
