MANILA, Philippines – A low pressure area was observed near Surigao del Sur by the state weather bureau Monday afternoon.

The LPA was 670 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur at 4 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Pagasa weather forecaster Alvin Puratold INQUIRER.net that based on forecast models, there were slim chances the LPA would become a cyclone.

It will be named “Caloy” if it intensifies into a tropical depression.

Pura said that even if summer is approaching, there is still a chance of a tropical cyclone to form this month.

The northeast monsoon, which brings cool weather, continued to affect Luzon and Visayas, Pagasa’s Monday afternoon bulletin said.

“The regions of Cordillera and Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will have cloudy skies with light rains,” Pagasa said.

Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Mindanao will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over Luzon, Visayas and Eastern Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.
