MANILA, Philippines — Police have arrested the alleged gunman in the killing of Judge Reynerio Estacio Sr. over the weekend, more than a week after he was shot dead in front of his house in Zamboanga City.

Interior Secretary Mar Roxas identified the suspect as Mohamad Alkhalidz Paradji Amisali, who was arrested at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday along Sunrise Drive, Barangay Talon-Talon in Zamboanga.

“Amisali was positively identified and pinpointed by three witnesses as one of the suspects in the murder of (Estacio),” Roxas said in a text message.

He said members of the city police office and the Regional Investigation and Detection Management Division of the Zamboanga Peninsula police office arrested the suspect.

However, it was still unclear what prompted the killing and if the suspect was a member of the Abu Sayyaf group.

Estacio, presiding judge Zamboanga Regional Trial Court Branch 14, was shot seven times by two gunmen on board motorcycle outside his house on Narra Drive in Barangay Tugbungan on Feb. 28.

The judge was known to handle several controversial cases, including those involving politicians, policemen and local terrorists.
