Mom of baby with rare disease pleads for help
MANILA, Philippines—Just over a year old, Mary Amelie Jane Hidalgo is about to undergo a third operation for immature teratoma.
The rare ailment, which comes with severe pain and swelling, is characterized by the growth of a tumor in the ovaries.
Mary Amelie’s mother, Alice Mary Jane, is worried because the tumor keeps on growing despite her having undergone 10 cycles of chemotherapy with four more remaining.
“I’m getting scared because she’s too small to be undergoing a third operation though the doctors told me to just pray. If that’s the only way to save her, we can only hope for the best,” she said.
According to her, attending doctors at Philippine Children’s Medical Center have told her she would be needing P200,000 for the operation on her child, the chemotherapy sessions and a CT scan.
