Following a series of computer donations in southern Luzon, power transmission company National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) proceeded to donate tablets and printers to at least two elementary schools in Negros Oriental province.
In a statement, NGCP head of corporate affairs Nelson Cabangon said San Jose Elementary School in Tanjay City and Bulak Elementary School in Dauin town each received IT packages composed of 10 tablets, a printer and 10 SD cards from the transmission company.
Jessica Reyes, principal of San Jose Elementary School, was quoted in the statement as saying teachers would also benefit from the IT packages that would help them in their research work, especially on science and math.
“We hear good things from faculty members who assured us that the computers would be put to good use,” Cabangon said in the statement.
“NGCP is happy that these tablets, which we usually use for recreation, can become powerful tools to share knowledge with students,” he said.
“With this project’s success, you can expect more similar initiatives from us,” he added.
According to the NGCP statement, students and teachers of the two schools in Negros Oriental promised to support efforts to protect NGCP’s transmission facilities. Tanjay City and Dauin town are hosts to these facilities.
On Feb. 26, the NGCP statement said the transmission company also donated a laptop, printer and 10 more tablets to Cabacungan Elementary School in Allen town, Northern Samar province. The town is one of the areas hit by Super Typhoon “Yolanda.”
