To launch activities marking Women’s Month, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) will try to set a world record for the largest female symbol formed on a field and the highest number of participants in such an activity, at the Quirino Grandstand grounds in Manila Saturday.
About 10,000 participants in white shirts and representing various government agencies, civil society groups and learning institutions will gather early Saturday to form the Venus symbol—a circle attached with a cross. The event seeks to convey Filipino solidarity in valuing the role of women in nation building, PCW said.
According to Guinness rules, the participants should remain in formation for 15 minutes.
With the theme “Juana, ang Tatag Mo ay Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong (Juana, your strength is our strength as we rise and move forward),” this year’s Women’s Month celebration will pay tribute to the strong and resilient Filipino women or “Juanas” who have inspired change in the country and wherever they are worldwide.
“With the environmental, socioeconomic and political upheavals in the country last year, 2014 brings a new ray of hope that will pave the way for healing, recovery and reconciliation,” the commission said in a statement. Maricar B. Brizuela
