MANILA, Philippines — Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito has apologized to netizens for snapping at one of his followers, bashing him while he was at the pork barrel hearing in the Senate Thursday.

“While the hearing was on going, I read my Twitter and a certain person was continuously bashing me,” Ejercito said in a text message on Friday.

“I have to admit I snapped and sent him a direct message,” he said.

The senator reportedly called his basher “Ungas! Duwag!”

“Soon after, I tweeted an apology in general to the netizens for my action,” Ejercito said.

His Twitter post read:  “My Twitter friends, I apologize for snapping sometimes. Tao din lang po ako. May iba kasi na sobra po mambastos kahit nasa hearing po ako [I’m just a human being. There are others who can be rude and I was in a hearing).”

After the incident, Ejercito said, a lot of netizens expressed their support and understanding for him.

“There are a handful of regular bashers who took advantage of the situation. And likewise certain media brought it out already,” he said.

“Being active in social media also needs certain degree of responsibility and respect. And I am glad that a lot of people I did not expect to show their support just did,” the senator added.
