MANILA Philippines –Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano rejected on Wednesday any plans of running for vice president, saying he would rather run for president someday.

“No. I thought about it, I’ve prayed about it. I’d rather be mayor or senator than vice president,” Cayetano said in a cable TV news interview.

“People always use it as a stepping stone for president. Ako, I believe that you can use anything as a stepping stone kung para sa iyo,” he said.

But one thing was certain, Cayetano was more interested in the presidency.

“I want to be president of this country someday. I think I can do something great for God and our people,” he said.

“But is 2016 my time? Or is it 2022? 2028? Or never..?”

In fact, the senator admitted that they have started conducting surveys for his possible presidential bid.

And in some surveys, Cayetano said he already defeated Vice President Jejomar Binay, who has openly declared his intention to run for president in 2016.

“There are certain areas in the country that I beat already Vice President Binay for example. Is it a fluke? Why do they like me there better?”  he said.

Cayetano said he has also tapped a local political adviser, whom he only described as an “expert” and “gifted by God at advertising.”

“But he used to run a firm that used to work for Americans also. So in his advertising firm, he always used experts. Japanese man ‘yan o American,” he said.
