MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III is not convinced that Charter change should push through but that doesn’t mean he will stop Congress from passing a bill proposing it.

Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma on Tuesday said the President does not want to interfere in the processes of Congress and disrespect the separation of powers.

“[The President] has consistently expressed his opposition to charter change and for good reason. He has stated it not only in the country but also in foreign lands,” he said, recalling a time when Aquino addressed a group of foreign investors.

Coloma also dismissed those insinuating that the President is behind Charter change proposals.
“Hindi prayoridad ng Pangulo ang issue na yan at marami syang pinagkakabaalahan,” he reiterated.

(Charter change is not a priority of the President and he has other things to tend to.)
