QC to distribute learner kits

/ 04:28 AM March 04, 2014

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has ordered the distribution of nearly P17.2-million worth of learner’s kits, including IPADs and books, for the use of Grades IV and V pupils in 37 local public schools.

The purchase of over 35,400 learner kits was authorized in a Jan. 27 council resolution that allowed the mayor to ink a deal with a winning bidder. In a statement, he said that 35,458 learner’s kits would initially be distributed to each Grade IV and Grade V pupil in 37 of the 99 city-operated elementary schools.

A learner’s kit is composed of a board foldcote sandwich-type IPAD with plastic lamination and a “Magsanay Tayo sa Filipino,” Sanayang Aklat sa Pilipino (Wika) textbook for Grades IV and V pupils.

According to Bautista, a kit would be given to every student in the pilot schools to test their effectiveness as teaching aids during classroom lessons in Filipino.—Jeannette I. Andrade
