Imee Marcos joins CamSur division opponents
LAOAG CITY—Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos has joined opponents of a bill that would break up Camarines Sur with the creation of a new province to be called Nueva Camarines.
“We have no new room for a new province,” she said, reflecting on the fact that Ilocos also suffered from its own breakup into a north and south Ilocandia and Abra in 1818.
“There is no more division and that’s that,” she added.
She had just signed a sister province agreement with Camarines Sur Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte, who had been lobbying against the measure that is being supported by his father, Rep. Luis Villafuerte Sr. and former Rep. Arnulfo Fuentebella, a former ally of the governor who is on his last term as congressman.
The bill passed the House with a vote of 229 in favor and one against. Vincent Cabreza, Inquirer Northern Luzon
