President Elpidio Quirino, born on Nov. 16, 1890, first served as a representative, a senator, secretary of interior and of finance before he was elected vice president in 1946. He assumed the presidency after Manuel Roxas died on April 15, 1948. He served another term after winning the 1949 elections. He died Feb. 29, 1956, in Quezon City at age 65.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
