Today, Feb. 21, is the 161st birth anniversary of the late painter Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. Born in Binondo in 1853, he won a scholarship to a school in Spain and an award in Madrid’s National Exposition of Fine Arts for his work “Christian Virgins Exposed to the Populace.” He died on March 13, 1913. A street in Quiapo, Manila, was named after him that same year.—Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
