2-year-old drowns in pit

A 2-YEAR-OLD boy entrusted by his parents to his 4-year-old elder brother was found dead in a pit filled with water in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, last Sunday afternoon.

Philip Sabanto was declared already dead by the attending doctors as he was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Police initial investigation revealed that the victim’s parents,  Felipe  Sabanto and Adelina, left Philip to the care of his 4-year-old brother while the couple left for work.

PO2 Leroy Baguio of the Cebu City Police Offcie said Adelina, a laundrywoman, left her children around noon for work.

She arrived around 2:20 p.m. and discovered the house empty.

She then asked her 6-year-old child to look for Philip and the 4-year-old.

Minutes later, the 4-year-old arrived and was asked where his brother was.

The child said he will look for Philip in the neighborhood.

The 4-year-old came back and told Adelina that Philip was in the 4-meter-deep pit filled with water floating.

Adelina then asked her neighbors’ assistance and brought Philip to the CCMC.

Police said the elder brother must have left Philip unattended./correspondent chito aragon
