MANILA, Philippines—A middle-aged man stabbed dead the father of his grandson in what police described as an apparent act of self-defense after the younger man lunged at him with a knife following a dispute with his estranged girl friend over custody of their son on Valentine’s Day in Quezon City.
Police said Jay-R Narciso, 22, died of a single stab wound in the chest inflicted by William Patac, 49, the father of his ex-lover who gave himself up to the authorities after the incident.
Case investigator Police Officer 3 Erickson Isidro said the stabbing happened around 6 a.m. Friday at Patac’s house in Barangay Sauyo.
He said Narciso was a former lover of Patac’s daughter Annamae. The couple had a nine-month-old baby boy who was in the mother’s care.
On Friday morning, a drunken Narciso went to the Patacs’ house to get his son but the mother refused to turn the boiy over to him.
According to Isidro, this led to a heated argument between Narciso and the elder Patac, after which the Narciso went out of the house and came back with a kitchen knife.
Narciso lunged at the older man in an attempt to stab him, but Patac managed to dodge the blow and wrest the knife away, using it then to stab Narciso in the chest, the policeman said.
Isidro said Patac, who is now under arrest, gave himself up to barangay officials.
Narciso died while being treated at the Novaliches District Hospital an hour after the stabbing, Isidro said.
