The Philippine Red Cross and Red Cross Society of China turned over 166 classrooms to five Leyte towns and Tacloban City, allowing thousands of elementary pupils and high school students to return to classes in more permanent structures.
In a statement quoting him, Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the classroom donation was “an outpouring of sympathy translated into humanitarian action and assistance.”
“Our teachers will also have some sense of normalcy because of the help that you gave,” he said.
At least 26 classrooms were turned over to principals in Palo, 10 in Tolosa, 3 in Tanauan, 7 in Dulag, 20 in Pastrana and 100 in Tacloban City.
