MANILA, Philippines – Senator Antonio Trillanes IV criticized a key witness in the pork barrel scam for being unsure about how much in kickbacks she delivered to two senators allegedly involved in the controversy.
“General statements are not allowed . . . We cannot accept statements like that,” said Trillanes during Thursday’s Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on the pork barrel scam.
Tuason said she delivered bags of money directly to Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada and to Senator Juan Ponce Enrile’s then chief of staff and lawyer Gigi Reyes.
She said she did not keep a ledger to record the kickbacks.
Tuason added that she does not remember the amount, adding, “I’m already 60 years old.”
Trillanes then asked Tuason if she believed Enrile knew about her transactions with Reyes.
“Perhaps . . . he may have an inkling,” Tuason said.
Trillanes said: “Inkling? I admire your courage for coming out. But it’s inadequate.”
Tuason, the former social secretary of then president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, was said to be the conduit between Enrile and Estrada and Napoles.
She said she had introduced Napoles to the lawmakers.
Tuason fled to the United States after the scandal broke out before returning to become state witness. She said she was bothered by her conscience.
Tuason is facing plunder charge, along with Estrada, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Enrile.
