MANILA, Philippines – Train passengers got an early Valentine treat Wednesday as Inquirer Libre surprised them with roses and chocolates with their free copy of the newspaper.

“Nakakataba ng puso (This is gratifying),” said optometrist Marivic Fernandez-Cabral.

She said she would be conducting an annual checkup in Cavite on Valentine’s Day and would celebrate Valentine’s with her husband the day before.

“Ang sweet (So sweet),” a group of giggling girls chorused as the roses were handed to them.

Delighting passengers in mind, Inquirer Libre, in partnership with the Light Rail Transit Authority, gave away roses and chocolates at the LRT1 Monumento Station, LRT2 Recto Station and LRT1 Edsa-Taft Station.

“This is the advanced Valentine’s gift of LRT and Inquirer Libre to the riders. We want to delight them with flowers and chocolates,” said Blair Marquez, business unit head of Inquirer Libre.

Some of the passengers also had their photos taken and instantly printed by the mobile PhotoMan. The pictures were to be uploaded on Inquirer Libre’s Facebook page.

A male passenger, Bryan dela Torre, said he was surprised to be handed a rose as he lined up for a train ticket.

“Nagulat ako kasi ako dapat nagbibigay ng bulaklak, pero thank you (I was surprised. I should be the one giving flowers, buth thank you),” he said.
