2 casino cashiers in hot water for revenue loss

Two cashiers working in an online casino in Quezon City were nabbed by police at 1:30 a.m. Monday after their manager discovered a P73,000 loss in game sales. Jomarie Espinosa of Batasan Hills and Gemma Agravante of Barangay (village) Obrero, both 25, and night-shift cashiers at WR Gaming and Entertainment Corp. on Tomas Morato Road, incurred the loss when they played online card games while on duty on September 10, according to Kamuning Police Station case investigator Police Officer 3 Antonio Torrente. The suspects tried to recover their losses the next day from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., but only incurred bigger losses. The pair was caught at 1:30 a.m. Monday when finance officer Salud Bacia made a random audit check and traced the shortage to the suspects. The gaming firm’s manager, Isidro Lazaro IV has filed a complaint of qualified theft against the suspects.—Penelope P. Endozo

A 26-year-old single mother jumped to her death from the seventh floor of a Pasig City condominium on Monday afternoon. Senior Inspector Roderick Tonga, police precinct commander of Ortigas Center, identified the woman as Michelle Jacklyn Relucio, a jobless mother of an 8-year-old boy. She was immediately rushed to The Medical City but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. Tonga said they have yet to rule out foul play, although relatives of the victim claimed the victim committed suicide out of depression. “But the family members refused to elaborate on why the victim was depressed,” Tonga said. The body of the victim was taken to Loyola Memorial Homes in Guadalupe, Makati City.

Medical services for poor at CGHMC

As part of its corporate responsibility program, the poor continue to receive free medical services and discounted rates in all medical procedures at the 120-year-old Chinese General Hospital & Medical Center (CGHMC), which opened its doors to charity patients in 1968. The hospital, operated by the Philippine Chinese Charitable Association Inc., is known for community-based programs and services reaching thousands of people in the areas where they serve. The charity section, with its 100-bed-capacity, has been one of the outstanding components of the CGHMC under the stewardship of Dr. James G. Dy, president, and Florante Dy, board chairman. As a charitable organization, every peso earned at the hospitals is given back in the form of charity care, the acquisition of modern medical equipment and facilities, and programs that fulfill the healthcare needs of the community, to everyone regardless of age, race, sex, creed, religion or social status. “Our mission is to provide the ideal venue for our patients’ healing and recovery with a distinguished team of professionals delivering the highest standards in healthcare management, while keeping the interest and welfare of our hospital community and its leaders in focus,” said Dr. Dy. CGHMC is on Blumentritt street in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
