6 soldiers wounded in clash with NPA rebels in Davao del Sur

MANILA, Philippines – Six soldiers were wounded in an encounter between government troops and New People’s Army guerrillas in Davao del Sur, the military said on Tuesday.

The firefight between the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion and communist rebels occurred in sitio (sub-village) Lutangan in Kapatagan village in Digos City at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, said Captain Ernest Carolina of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division.

The soldiers wounded in the clash were:

1.Sergeant Eliseo C Peraño

2.Corporal Marcelino B Bagood Jr

3.Private First Class Olomodin S Dicampong

4.Pfc Lory Kim A Lacal

5.Pfc Genesis C Quilaton

6.Private Michael M Guibao

One soldier identified as Cpl. Ricky Tuarez  went missing, but was later found.

Carolina said a landmine placed by the NPA went off and injured the soldiers.

Two rebels were wounded in the hour-long clashes, Carolina said.
