Corona: Cuevas gave me strength to fight for truth

MANILA, Philippines—Former Chief Justice Renato Corona said the late Supreme Court Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas was like a father to him.
“I am saddened by the death of the head of my defense team. Ka Apin [Justice Cuevas was known to his friends] was a brilliant lawyer. Our relationship is more than that of a client-lawyer; he was like a father to me,” Corona said in a statement sent to reporters.
Corona said Cuevas gave him strength to fight for the truth.
“When we lost in the impeachment trial, I will never forget what he told me: in the Supreme Court in the afterlife, there is only one judge and He knows the truth as to what happened in the sham impeachment trial,” Corona said.
“While I am sad that he is no longer with us, joy still reigns in my heart because I know that Justice Cuevas is now in heaven with God.”
